On Saturday 12th May 1962 at 2pm the Open Air Pool was officially opened to the public. To celebrate our golden annniversary we are holding a gala afternoon on Saturday 12th May starting at 2pm exactly 50 years to the hour and day when the pool first opened. Everyone is invited to come along and help us celebrate this special occasion. Entrance is £2 for adults, £1 for children and includes a glossy souvenir programme. During the afternoon there will be a 60s-style synchronised swimming display, a lifesaving demo, water polo and relay races followed by a public swim.

Then in the evening we are hosting a fabulous fundraising 60s-themed party at Herne Farm Leisure Centre with live 60s music from band Retromatic, and a 60s buffet. There will be a prize for best 60s fancy dress but dressing up isn’t obligatory!! The bar will be open and the fun starts at 7.30 pm till 11pm. Tickets cost £15 or £10 for season ticket holders and pool supporter club members and are available at the pool or from 01730 263429. Get a group together and have a fun evening whilst helping us raise funds for the pool.

The Swimathon weekend is very nearly upon us and unfortunately the weather seems to have taken a turn for the worse. Don’t let that deter you as the water is very warm and feels particularly so when the air temperature is low!

PLEASE NOTE: The pool  will be closed for  three Swimathon sessions over the weekend. These are from 5pm on Friday (27th ) evening, all afternoon on Saturday 28th April and all afternoon on Sunday 29th April. If you know someone who is swimming or would just like to come along to cheer the participants on you will be very welcome at the pool during these sessions. Participants who are swimming for Sport Relief and Marie Curie Cancer Care can be sponsored by going to the  the website www.swimathon.org.

This exhibition is based on original research carried out by Richard Davies from  original documents, newspaper cuttings, minutes of management meetings, photos and reminiscences.   The Pool Trustees hope to publish this substantial and very interesting work as a book in the Autumn 2012. This exhibition is a chance to see some of the edited highlights of this research so please do go and have a look. Entrance to the Flora Twort Gallery is free and the exhibition runs from Tuesday 3rd April – Saturday 14th April 2012 from 10am – 4pm Tuesday – Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday.
