As usual there will be a £10 reduction in the cost of a season ticket bought on the day and refreshments will be served.

Please join us and take the opportunity not only to meet committee members but to support the pool in its fiftieth year.

We will be publicising the events taking place during our golden year and we look forward to you joining us in making this a year to remember.

Happy New Year to all our supporters and friends, swimmers and non-swimmers alike. 2012 is a big year for the pool as we celebrate our 50th jubilee. The pool was officially opened on May12th 1962.Various events are planned to mark this auspicious year so watch this space for more news.

 SWIMATHON Weekend 2012

We are pleased to announce that we have been chosen as a host pool for the 2012 Swimathon weekend which takes place from 27-29th April. Swimathon gives thousands of swimmers in the UK the chance to take on a challenge and raise vital funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care or Sport Relief.

For more information and to enter go to swimathon.org. You can choose your challenge from 5km, 2.5 km or 5km team for Marie Curie or do the Big Splash Mile for Sport Relief. For those less serious swimmers there is Simply Swim.

To accommodate Swimathon the pool will have a new opening date of Saturday 21st April 2012. The Open Day for visiting the pool and booking lessons will be on Saturday 14th April 2012.

Sometimes you just can’t win !

Needless to say keeping the pool open for a bit longer is not that easy – we have to establish opening dates long before we have any idea what the weather is going to do.

For now just make a note of the Opening Date in 2012 – which will be April 28th. We look forward to seeing you then.

Once again we are very pleased to announce that the Portsmouth Victoria Synchronised Swimming Club are coming to Petersfield Open Air pool to give a display on Sunday 10th July. They are a competitive synchro club whose swimmers have represented HampshireCounty, the Southern District, England and Great Britain. The display will comprise of complicated figures and taxing routines for solo swimmers, duets and teams of between four to eight swimmers. Synchronised swimming has been likened to water ballet and has been an Olympic sport since 1984. The display starts at 11am and entrance is from 10.30am onwards with prices of £3 for adults and £1.50 for under-16s. Following the display the audience is invited to ‘have a go’ so bring a costume, hat, goggles and noseclip if you would like to join in. For more information phone 01730 265143. The adult swimming session will take place from 9am – 10.30 am as usual, but there will be no public swimming from 10.30am– 1 pm that morning.

It certainly felt like it with torrential rain the whole afternoon. Despite this a number of plucky children from Steep school turned up and swam their chosen lengths. The figures have yet to be confirmed but it looks as though their efforts will have raised around £700 – a splendid effort. Thanks to Linda Knutsen who organised it all and to all those parents who braved the weather to support the children.

The day starts with an Adults only session from 9.00 – 10.30 am and the pool will be open to the general public from 10.30 onwards. We look forward to seeing you all then. Leaflets are now available at the Tourist Information Centre in Petersfield.

Pool Open Day

Saturday 16th April – 9.30 am – 1 pm If you would like to visit the pool and have a look at it before the new season starts, make a note of the Open Day which takes place on Saturday 16th April. Various committee members, staff and supporters will be there to answer any questions and show you round the facilities. Refreshments will be served.

Viv, the manageress, and her staff will be taking bookings for  swimming and diving lessons which are allocated on a ‘first come first served’  basis.

Please take the opportunity to consider volunteering for the pool. We are now very short of committee members and as a result are not doing all we might do to keep the pool at its best.  We need help – urgently. The pool’s 50th anniversary comes up in 2012  which is also Olympic year.  We would like to celebrate by showing everyone that the pool really is “the jewel in the crown” of Petersfield. But we won’t do that without more help.

It isn’t necessary to join the committee if you feel committee work is not for you. What we most need is practical help and support.

Please join us in making the pool one to be proud of.
